Jim Moninger lived near Pittsburgh, so it is no surprise that he is a HUGE Steelers fan.  Although Jim lived only miles from the Steelers Stadium, he has never been to a game.  He and his sons now watch the games from their Lawrenceburg home.  But NOT on August 24th!

Second Wind Dreams, a national non-profit organization that makes dreams come true for eldercare community residents throughout the U.S., and Ashwood Place Retirement Community has recruited some BIG NAMES to make his dream become a reality.  Thanks to Michelle Rosenthal, Community Relations Manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jim and two guests will be watching the Steelers play the Kansas City Chiefs in Pittsburgh on Saturday, August 24th.  On Tuesday, August 13th, Jim’s dream was revealed to him.  Ashwood Place went all out with the amazing community support from our local Buffalo Wild Wings.  Kevin Rogers, GM for Buffalo Wild Wings, agreed to play a shout out video starring Dermonti Dawson, former #63 for the Steelers and 2012 NFL Hall of Famer.  Mr. Dawson made a personal video for Jim telling him about his upcoming adventure and the video was played on most of the TVs in front of his family and friends from Ashwood Place!  Jim was astonished with the reveal as he kept repeating, “You got me!  You got me!”

Assistant Manager of Buffalo Wild Wings, Clinton Scarbrough and his staff were instrumental in surpising Mr Moninger with his dream!  Jim also received a signed football from one of his favorite players, none other than Dick Le Beau, Defensive Coordinator and Hall of Fame Inductee in 2010!  He also received Steelers memorabilia from Jim Aneszko with Home Instead Senior Care of Frankfort.  Digital Expressions Photography will supply Jim with a photo CD of his dream reveal.  This dream could not have been made possible without these generous donors.

There’s nothing more beautiful than seeing a senior’s face light up like it’s Christmas morning!  They are transformed into a child again and have that twinkle in their eyes and, even if their body is impaired, a perceptive spring in their step.  Cathy Moore put it best at this reveal, “they forget about their aches and pains and what ails them.  They have something to talk about…THEIR DREAM.”  And as more dreams become a reality to the residents at Ashwood Place, they have more and more to talk about to each other.  New memories that will last their lifetime!
