On Sunday, Western Hills High School hosted the 4th Annual WeWanna Play Dodgeball Bash, a tournament style dodgeball event to benefit the WeWanna Play organization. WeWanna Play, is an organization on “a mission to make sure every student athlete that wishes to participate in middle or high school varsity sports has that opportunity, and is not held back by the escalating costs of fees, uniform costs, equipment costs, etc…” Thirty-two teams of six players each and of all ages, each paid to play dodgeball to help raise money. According to Rob Hecker, “twenty-four teams competed two years ago”, the most that they had ever had up until Sunday’s event!
The teams played at least three 3-minute games. The teams competed against each other in two rounds of round robin games before entering into the elimination bracket. Congratulations goes out to the winning team, “Dodging Under the Influence (D.U.I.)”, for coming out victorious. This was the third year in a row for them. Also, they respectfully declined the award money, donating it back to the WeWanna Play organization. The six man team team consisted of Scott Barrass, Logan Curry, Steve Coffey, Hunter Coffey, Jordan Barrass and Ryan Barrass. Congratulations also goes out to the runner-up team, the “Stache Attack”, who put up a great fight against an experienced team. They also declined the award money, donating it back to WeWanna Play. The “Best Dressed” Team Award went to the “Kilroy Minions”.
WeWannaPlay.org would like to thank their supporters and volunteers, including Star 103.7 and Froggy 104.9, the Frankfort Plant Board, the FCHS Dance Team, the WHHS Wolverine Dance Team, Western Hills High School and Craig Fry, Papa Johns Pizza, Hargis Photography, Capital Living and April Cole Photography, CrossFit Unbridled, CrossFit Frankfort, ProActive Therapy, Rebound Orthopedics, and all the local high school and KSU teams, as well as all other local business teams, and all of the fans that came out to see all the dodgeball action.
