The weather was perfect on Saturday for the Governor’s Derby Celebration, formerly known as the Governor’s Derby Breakfast. Originally a derby tradition started by Governor A.B. “Happy” and Mrs. Chandler that began as a small breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion on Derby Day in 1936. It has grown into a event that hosts thousands of citizens into downtown Frankfort to celebrate the ‘fastest two minutes in sports.’
Highlights this year included breakfast served by many of the downtown merchants, the YMCA Derby Dash for kids, stick pony races for the kids, the ever popular “Race for the Posies” and entertainment by some of the best groups around the Frankfort area.
