This five (5) week revenue generating effort kicks off on October 14, 2014 to reach a goal of $75,000 by November 13, 2014. The Total Resource Campaign has created nine (9) teams of volunteers under the leadership of their Team Captains: Daniel Byrd, State Farm Insurance; Kathleen Campbell, Franklin County Community Education; Mike Mueller, Inside Out Design; Rick Pogrotsky, Farmers Bank; Jeff Roberts, Whitaker Bank; John Senter, Community Trust Bank; Tonya Stormes, CapCity Communications; Rene’ True, ConnectKentucky, and Co-Captains: Kim Brown, The Eclectic Mix and Melanie Weisberg, Facial Enhancements.

These Team Captains recruit volunteers to market sponsorships to Chamber events and publications, while also seeking new members for the Chamber. The all-volunteer Campaign consists of more than 175 sponsorships available during the Campaign. Volunteers assist companies with choosing options best suited to meet the organization’s marketing needs.

“The TRC offers excellent exposure for companies both at the Chamber’s events and within our signature publications,” said Rene’ True, 2014 Chamber President. Teams are currently forming and setting their team goals for the campaign.

“The Campaign is a great way for volunteers to meet our area’s top community leaders and business owners while working directly with many of the Chamber’s most dedicated leadership,” suggested Campaign Chair John Hibbard, “so call Executive Director Carmen Inman or Suzy Hosley, the Chamber’s Membership Services Coordinator at 502-223-8261 to take advantage of this great opportunity to get involved.”

On Monday, the Frankfort Cemetery opened it’s doors to the historic Chapel for the first time to the public in 20 years.  The Franklin County Trust for Historic Preservation presented the second 2014 Preserve Franklin County grant award to the Frankfort Cemetery at the ceremony.  The $1,500 grant will be used to further furnish the historic Chapel which was officially reopened during the ceremony.  The Trust contributed to renovating the historic Chapel back in 2003 in collaboration with the Garden Club of Frankfort.  We are very happy this wonderful historic landmark will once again serve as a beautiful and functional space for funeral and memorial services, weddings, and more for the community of Frankfort!

27 Saturday Sep 2014

5K, Capitol City River Dash, Capitol View Park, Frankfort, Kentucky, Obstacle Course

Another cool and somewhat foggy day greeted the brave souls that decided to take on the Capitol City River Dash on Saturday.  Hundreds of people signed up for the 3rd annual event which is a punishing 5K obstacle held at Capitol View Park.  The course challenges mind, body and soul. This event drew entire families to participate with 100% of the proceeds going to the host & sponsor, Sparrow Missions.  Sparrow Missions is an inter-denominational non-profit mission organization for individuals and groups of all ages.

The obstacle course changes each year.  This year, Capital living covered from the monkey bars to the cargo net climb part of the course.  As usual, we saw people competing against themselves as well as others.  But, we also saw teams, families and coworkers helping each other and showing tremendous TEAMWORK!  This teamwork reflects the true spirit of Frankfort.

Congratulations to ALL THAT COMPETED AND COMPLETED this year’s course!!!

The 3rd Annual Capitol City River Dash will be held September 27th, 2014 at Capitol View Park in scenic downtown Frankfort Ky.  The 150 acre park is bound by the Kentucky River & provides the ideal setting for this extreme 5K event.   The Kentucky River, numerous creeks, deep ravines, woods, and rapid elevation changes are only a few of the natural elements in the area that will make Capitol View Park home to the ultimate 5k race.

Proceeds from the Capitol City River Dash will go to our host & sponsor Sparrow Missions.  Sparrow Missions is an inter-denominational non-profit mission organization for individuals and groups of all ages. We believe strongly in creating unity within the Body of Christ. Our heart is to mobilize Christians and equip them to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission, minister to the human need, and live out God’s will for their lives. We strive to motivate believers to pursue Jesus Christ and take His life-giving message to the ends of the earth!  Sparrow Missions is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

One of the benefits to being a small school in downtown Frankfort is the ability to parade through the streets for a Homecoming Parade.  On Friday, the students of Frankfort High did just that!  With their subordinates from Second Street School, the residents of South Frankfort and the businesses and state office workers in downtown Frankfort looking on, the students of Frankfort High School took to the streets in a parade.  Football players, clubs, seniors, and underclassmen joined the homecoming court and homemade floats in the procession.  Frankfort High School went on to beat Lexington Christian 41-21 in Friday night’s game.
