Book Release, Capital Cellars, Dr. Gene Burch, Gene Burch, Gene Burch Photography, Mike Barnes, One Tenth of the Law, Ray Peden

On May 19, Frankfort native Ray Peden hit the Publish button for his first suspense/thriller, One Tenth of the Law.  Set predominately in current day Frankfort, Lexington, Macon (Ga), and Richmond (Va), plus 2003 Kuwait leading up to Operation Iraqi Freedom, the novel spins a layered tale of intrigue and conspiracy from the highest levels of government greed and corruption to the violent dregs of bottom-dwelling psychopaths. (Read full article HERE)

On Thusday, May 28th, Peden’s books had been printed and ready to sell to the dozens of excited fans waiting at Capital Cellars to meet him and eagerly purchase autographed books.  On hand to also meet and greet fans was photographer, Gene Burch, who photographed the cover for the book, and Mike Barnes, Gene’s subject matter.  All three men were happy to answer questions and autograph books.

You can download your digital copy of Peden’s book on Amazon.com or can order a copy HERE.

Thursday, May 28, 4:00 – 7:00 pm – Book Launch Party for “One Tenth of the Law”, Capital Cellars, 227 W Broadway,

Please join Ray Peden in celebrating the birth of his first novel, One Tenth of the Law, on Thursday, May 28.  Wine and cheese by Capital Cellars.

“Five years of study and practice and endless rewrites and now it all comes down to three short hours of laughs and camaraderie? Oh, hell, why not.

Fake praise and outright insults are welcome and appropriate, considering how long it took me to get this soon-to-be bestseller published. I’ll have hot-off-the-press trade paperback books available for those who can read (and pay). But please know it’s your company I want, not your money.”

Parking on street, or in the History Center parking lot 200 feet away.

Kentucky Military History Museum

This Greek Revival style building was the State Arsenal from the 1850s until the early 1970s when the Boone National Guard Center opened in Frankfort. During the Civil War, it served as a munitions factory where Frankfort women made ammunition for troops from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The Kentucky Historical Society and the Department of Military Affairs created the Kentucky Military History Museum here in 1973.

KHS operates the Kentucky Military History Museum with the Kentucky Department for Military Affairs. Artifacts and documents help provide a full picture of Kentuckians military service.

125 E. Main St. | Frankfort, KY 40601

Old State Capitol

The Old State Capitol is the third building to have served as Kentucky’s seat of government. Gideon Shryock, the state’s first native-born professionally trained architect, designed this Greek Revival building as a young man. Between 1830 and 1910, it saw many lively political debates as lawmakers grappled with issues of the day, including slavery and war.

After its use as State Capitol, the building served as headquarters of the Kentucky Historical Society (1920-ca. 1968). Today, restored to the way it looked in the early 1850s, it houses the exhibit “Great Revivals: Kentucky Decorative Arts Treasures” and is open for tours through KHS.

Frankfort, KY – Institute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is pleased to announce that Carmen Inman, President/CEO, of the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a Regent Scholarship. Given to professionals across the country, the Regent Scholarships recognize each recipient for their involvement in industry professional organizations, community service, and professional background.

“Regent scholarships offer executives the opportunity to attend Institute and learn about emerging industry trends, expand their organizations’ influence, and grow their peer network,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, vice president of Institute for Organization Management at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “We are pleased to help these talented professionals advance their careers and organizations.”

Since its commencement in 1921, the Institute program has been educating tens of thousands of association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders on how to build stronger organizations, better serve their members and become strong business advocates.  Institute’s curriculum consists of four weeklong sessions at five different university locations throughout the country. Through a combination of required courses and electives in areas such as leadership, advocacy, marketing, finance, and membership, Institute participants are able to enhance their own organizational management skills and add new fuel to their organizations, making them run more efficiently and effectively.

Each of the Regent Scholarship recipients will attend one of Institute’s five sites in 2015. At the completion of the four-year curriculum, each of the recipients will receive the IOM graduate recognition, signifying completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and their commitment to the industry. In addition, all credit hours earned through Institute may be applied toward the Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) or Certified Association Executive (CAE) industry certification. Nearly 1,000 individuals attend Institute annually.

Institute for Organization Management is the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. It is the premier nonprofit professional development program for association and chamber professionals, fostering individual growth through interactive learning and networking opportunities.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USCCF) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce dedicated to strengthening America’s long-term competitiveness by addressing developments that affect our nation, our economy, and the global business environment.
