About the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame:

The Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation was established in January of 2012. After dialogue exploring the need for a Kentucky Veteran of the Year Award, it was determined that such a project of inducting only one veteran would be virtually impossible…hence the idea to form a Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame was brought to light since such a foundation did not exist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  This was the motivation to create such an entity.

In the spring of 2012 a proposed bill was submitted to the Kentucky Senate and was passed by unanimous vote. The bill did not reach the House of  Representatives for their vote, so a new resolution will be re-submitted in very soon.

In the near future, the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame shall seek legislative authority to establish the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame and, with that, we hope to have support of veteran’s service organizations and the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs in our quest to recognize the worthiest of veteran candidates.

On March 11 and 12, 2014 the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame celebrated it’s inaugural Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony @ the BridgetCapital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort. Inducting 4 living Medal of Honor recipients, 20 Kentucky Veterans and 3 deceased Kentucky Veterans.

Miss America 2000, Heather French Henry spoke at the Gala Dinner on the first day. Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes spoke at the Induction ceremony on the second day. Dr. Edward Hughes, president of Gateway Community and Technical College also spoke at the induction ceremony on the second day.

The second annual KVHOF induction ceremony will be held at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, KY on September 25 and 26, 2015.

We received our 501 (c) 3 status January 2014.

Laurie Davison, Salato Center Manager, Will Be Missed

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A memorial ceremony to honor former Salato Wildlife Education Center Director Laurie Davison will be held at the center in Frankfort at 2:30 p.m. (Eastern time) Friday, Aug. 14.

Davison, who managed the Salato Center for the past 15 years, drowned last month while vacationing in South Carolina.

She worked with numerous conservation and civic groups to provide interactive and interpretive programming about Kentucky’s native wildlife and its importance. She also guided development of many of the native wildlife live animal exhibits, hiking trails and displays in and around the center that have been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands outdoor enthusiasts since her career at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources began in 2000.

The ceremony at the Salato Center will be open to the public. The center is located in the back section of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife campus in Frankfort. The campus is located at 1 Sportsman’s Lane, off U.S. 60 approximately two miles west of the intersection with U.S. 127.

HeartChase Comes to the Old Capitol Lawn this Saturday

Frankfort, HeartChase, Old Capitol Lawn

On Saturday, July 25th, the Old State Capitol Lawn will play host to a fundraising game with a cause.  Check out the video below, read on and click HERE to participate.

HeartChase is loads of fun… with a purpose!

Get your game on! HeartChase is a good-cause community adventure game. It’s a fun and frenzied pursuit of hidden rewards and healthy lives. And best of all, it’s a chance to help our community and the AHA chase away heart disease for good. Teams of 2-5 people will compete against other teams in a chase through the community. Each team will face multiple checkpoint challenges and locate Power Ups all while tracking progress in the HeartChase Mobile Game App. The team with the most points at the end of the clock wins! But HeartChase doesn’t start (or end) there…

The Chase Starts Now!

While the event is free to play, chasing away heart disease is no small task and the AHA needs everyone’s help to make it possible. To put the fun in fundraising and jump start the competition, we’ve created a series of Game Advantage Cards that are used to get a head start on chase day. The first Game Advantage Card only goes to the first ten teams to reach $100. And the team with the highest donation total wins a special, one of a kind Game Advantage Card!

How to Play and Win!

  1. Register for HeartChase. Recruit players for your team and make sure they are registered.
  2. Download the HeartChase App on your Smart Phone.
    • iPhone App
    • Android App
  3. Start your team fundraising efforts and earn Game Advantages!

On game day, wear your best team costume! Once the game starts:

  • Get as many points as possible by completing checkpoint challenges and finding Power Upss before the clock runs out. The HeartChase App tracks your team’s points.
  • Game Advantages will make winning easier by allowing your team to do things like skip to the front of a checkpoint line or completely skip a checkpoint and still get the points!
