As first reported back on our September 9th article, the Western Kentucky Mountain Workshops has descended upon Frankfort! I was made aware of their impending series of workshops back in early September. After researching them further, I realized it was going to be a remarkable opportunity for Frankfort to shine! I got to meet Betina Garcia today, who turned the tables on ME for her Mountain Workshop Video Journalism project!
I knew they were going to be here this week. I was expecting a phone call to confirm them coming to interview me sometime last week. “Did they change their mind?”, I thought to myself. And then I got a phone call at almost 3:00 pm. She introduced herself to me and told me that she just “drew my name and couldn’t wait to meet me”. Wait. NOW? I had been awake since 5 am blogging until after 1 pm. I barely had gotten out of the shower and was about to do a little laundry. And now, this total stranger wants to come over and interview ME! This is NOT my life!!!
Within 45 minutes, I was meeting the young lady who would shadow me for the week. Unfortunately for her, she missed my totally event filled weekend. And my week days are much tamer, filled with meetings, photo editing, website upkeep, blogging, and the mundane day to day operations of running my businesses and my personal life. But we sat down and talked for a while. There was a “connection” that only one photographer “gets” with another true photographer.
As the videographers, photographers, journalists, etc. fan out into the Frankfort/Franklin County community, their efforts as a whole, will shine a positive light on us all. By telling our stories, this group will be telling the rest of the Commonwealth, the rest of the nation, even the world, that Frankfort is so much more than “just state government”.
