Happy Halloween from Capital Living

Happy Halloween!
The City of Frankfort has set trick or treat hours for tonight from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

7:00 am – 12:00 NOON – Franklin County Farmer’s Market, at Riverview Park, 404 Wilkinson Blvd,  Vendors will be there with local vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, honey, and more.

9:00 am – 5:00 pm –  New Leash on Life Thrift StoreShop for the Animals, 415 W Broadway. Many unique modern and vintage items for sale in a lovely setting. All proceeds benefit the Franklin County Humane Society. Info: 352-2229

12:00 NOON – MET Opera – TANNHÄUSER, at the Grand Theatre, 308 St. Clair Street

James Levine conducts Wagner’s early masterpiece in its first return to the Met stage in more than a decade. Today’s leading Wagnerian tenor, Johan Botha, takes on the daunting title role of the young knight caught between true love and passion. Eva-Maria Westbroek is Elisabeth, adding another Wagner heroine to her Met repertoire after her acclaimed Sieglinde in the Ring a few seasons ago. On the heels of his recent triumph in Parsifal, Peter Mattei sings Wolfram, and Michelle DeYoung is the love goddess, Venus.

12:00 – 5:00 pm Walk with the Animals, at Salato Wildlife Education Center,

Put on your costume and join us at the Salato Wildlife Education Cetner from 12 pm to 5 pm for the best trick-or-treat experience in town!  This kid-friendly event will include a hale bale maze, “Creatures of the Night” exhibit, face painting and, of course, plenty of candy!  Kids will recieve a Passort, which they will get stamped at each exhibit after recieveing a treat (or trick!).  Our staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions, and all of your wildlife will be present and waiting…for you!  Admission is $5 per person.  Annual membership holders and infants too young to participate are free!  No registration required.

The Salato Wildlife Center will be closed until 12 pm on the day of the event.

Walk With The Animals at Salato 2015 - 10-31-15

1:00 – 4:00 pm Family Fun Saturday: Creepy Kentucky, at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, 100 W. Broadway.  From old-fashioned fortune telling games to Kentucky ghost stories, discover the Halloween traditions of the Commonwealth.  For kids ages 5-10 and their families. Free admission does not include Kentucky Historical Society museums.  Information: 502-564-1792

2:00 – 4:00 pm Genealogy Tea & Sympathy, at the Kentucky Historical Society, 100 West Broadway Street

Join our library staff for tea time and good old-fashioned conversation.

Have an ancestor who is eluding you? Confused about which source to use next?  Have questions about the proof standard or how to get the kids involved? Bring along your genealogy issues, hot topics or questions and the group will try to help you out.

Even if we can’t solve your problem, we promise to provide lots of tea and sympathy!

All research levels welcome.  Let’s learn from each other’s experiences!

Ghostly Gala at Elk Creek Vineyard - 10-31-15

7:00 pm – Ghost Tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery, It’s rumored that there are more spirits at the Distillery than those aging in barrels. You will hear legendary stories and get a look at some of the Distillery’s most haunted areas, including Stony Point Mansion, where it’s been said that the ghost of Col. Blanton still resides.
