There is a lot of buzz in the running community this year! The expansion of the Frankfort Trifecta to the Frankfort Striders Run/Walk Series Challenge is opening the door to people of all fitness levels – whether you are already an avid runner, or you have decided this is the year you’ll get yourself off the couch, out the door and move forward on becoming fit.
For those of you in the latter category, we have just the training program for you. The 2016 Pro.Active for Life 5K’s educational and training sessions are combined into the newly created Walk Before You Run training. These free group trainings will meet on Mondays and Thursdays beginning March 7 and continuing through April 18 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Groups will begin with a 10 minute discussion of a topic pertinent to wellness and running, followed by a 30-40 minute walk/run. We’ll gradually be increasing our walking/running speed and time as participants’ fitness levels improve. The last 15 minutes of the evening there will be a Q & A at the Ask the (physical) Therapist session.
All fitness levels are invited to participate. Runners will be able to run on their own but participate in the pre-run talks and Ask the Therapists sessions. Individuals who only want to walk can do so, but we will encourage you vary the speed of your walking for the best conditioning.
There will be no training on March 17, instead people are encouraged to participate in Good Shepherd’s Run for the Gold 3K that evening. We may or may not have group session during spring break. Individuals can begin anytime; you do not have to attend every session, but participants who attend 8 of the 10 sessions will be eligible for door prizes.
To sign up, contact Debbie Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org, or just show up. We hope you’ll join us!
