A public viewing of a painting by world-renowned visual artist Synthia Saint James will be on display in the Library Community Room on Thursday, May 19, from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The public will be able to purchase prints of the painting, commissioned to commemorate Kentucky State University’s 130th anniversary, as well as meet the artist. Saint James is most celebrated for designing the first Kwanzaa stamp for the United States Postal Service in 1997, and creating the cover art for Terry McMillan’s book, Waiting to Exhale. For more than two decades, her artwork has been featured in several United States Embassies through the Art in Embassies Program. Saint James continues to create paintings for private collectors, colleges, universities, corporations, and non-profit organizations.
