The Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce and many of their members helped the Capital Expo Festival folks welcome their 43rd year of family fun for everyone with a business after hours. Many Chamber members then stuck around for the Opening ceremonies, which started a little late due the the thunderstorms that rolled through the area. Those rains brought on the prettiest full rainbow with a hint of a second rainbow shortly afterwards. Opening Ceremonies featured the presentation of colors from VFW Post 7. Former Kentucky Governor and current state senator Julian Carroll was invited to speak at the opening ceremony. He was instrumental during his time as governor in starting the Capital Expo Festival as an arts festival. After a few years, local Frankfort citizens stepped in and took over the festival and have helped it grow into what it is today, family fun, music and art.
The Opening Ceremonies were followed up by the Capital Expo Idol, a local singing competition now in it’s 4th year. Contestants who performed at Friday’s competition were chosen during 8 preliminary singing competitions held throughout Frankfort and Lawrenceburg. Eleven contestants took to the stage and sang, played guitar and even the keyboard for the audience. Some had great showmanship. Others brought their own fan base. Still others showed pure raw talent. All had a great time!
The Capital Expo Festival will run through Saturday, June 4th, and conclude with epic fireworks around 10 pm that night. Between now and then, enjoy the music, the fun, the food, the Funnel Cake 5K, the Children’s Festival, the Car Show, and so much more! A list of activities is listed below as well as images from opening night.
