Come celebrate Capital Expo Festival’s 43rd Anniversary. Started in 1973, Capital Expo is a festival for the entire family, with three days of continuous fun and free entertainment at the Capital Plaza Complex in historic downtown Frankfort Kentucky.

Whether just looking or buying, you don’t want to miss one of Capital Expo Festival’s oldest traditions, our Artisans. Featuring primitive woodcrafts, wearable art, mosaics, handmade sterling silver and gemstone jewelry, paintings, pottery, hand turned wooden bowls, Kentucky Crafted and Kentucky Proud items and woodworking to name a few.

Come hungry to Capital Expo Festival, you will find a large variety of food and beverages to satisfy any palate. Capital Expo has something for everyone, Carnival rides, Funnel Cake 5K Race, a Classic Car Show, continuous live entertainment on 2 stages, a Children’s Festival, and Rumble on the River, the Fireworks display.

Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city

In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.

The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday

Admission to the museum is free.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm – WOA Lunchtime Summer Concert Series presents Dave Shelton & Hunt Butler, at the Ward Oates Amphitheater, in Riverview Park at the end of West Main St.  Bring your lunch and enjoy FREE music.  Hosted by Frankfort Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites. (In case of inclement weather, concert will be cancelled) 875-8575.

1:30 pm – Guided Tour of Historic Liberty Hall, at Liberty Hall Historic Site, 218 Wilkinson Street.

Guided tours of Liberty Hall are given Monday-Saturday and depart from Liberty Hall located at 218 Wilkinson Street at 1:30 pm. Tours by appointment may be made during normal office hours with advance notice of 7 days. Guided tours last approximately 75 minutes, ending in the museum store.  Las paseos en Español disponibles con cita; habla con Becky Shipp.

The grounds of Liberty Hall Historic Site are open to the public daily, dawn to dusk. Leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds. Photographers are welcome with a pass; click here to read more about our photo policy.

School tours must be scheduled in advance.  The fee for school tours is $3.00 per child.  One chaperon per every 10 children is free; each additional adult pays $5.00. To schedule a school tour, call (502) 227-2560 or contact us by email.

Accessibility

The first floor of the Orlando Brown House is wheelchair accessible via a ramp on Wapping Street, adjacent to the building. A handicapped-accessible restroom is also available at the Orlando Brown House.  Please call for more information. Liberty Hall is not wheelchair accessible.

7:00 pm – Ghost Tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery, It’s rumored that there are more spirits at the Distillery than those aging in barrels. You will hear legendary stories and get a look at some of the Distillery’s most haunted areas, including Stony Point Mansion, where it’s been said that the ghost of Col. Blanton still resides.
