Race Proceeds to Benefit VFW Post 4075 Fireworks Show
FRANKFORT, FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY (June 16, 2016) – On your mark, get set, GO! It’s time for Frankfort’s summer holiday classic, Buffalo Trace Distillery’s 15th annual 5K Race, the Great Buffalo Chase! Held the morning of Independence Day, July 4th, the race will wind through the scenic grounds of the historic Distillery. As in years past, proceeds from the race will help fund VFW Post 4075’s Annual Fourth of July fireworks show to be held that evening.
In celebration of the 15th annual 5K Great Buffalo Chase, a finalist from the television show “America’s Got Talent,” Benton Blount, will sing the national anthem prior to the race, and WKYT television news anchor Amber Philpott will be onsite to emcee the event.
Also special to this year’s race, one-time only cash prizes will be given to the fourth through sixth place male and female runners in addition to awarding the top three overall male and female runners as per tradition.
Cash prizes for the top six overall male and female runners will be awarded in the following amounts: $250 for sixth place, $500 for fifth place, $1,000 for fourth place, $2,000 for third place, $2,500 for second place, and $3,000 for first place for both genders. Additionally, a $1,000 bonus will be awarded for beating the Great Buffalo Chase record finish time of 13:41 for male runners and 15:52 for female runners. Awards will also be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.
All walkers and runners are invited to dress in red, white and blue, as special awards will be given for the most patriotic attire.
Pre-registered runners, as well as those who want to register, can pick up their race packets on Sunday, July 3rd from noon – 5 p.m. at the Buffalo Trace Distillery Visitor Center, in addition to doing so the morning of the race.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. Chip timing (electronic measurement of a runner’s time and speed) will again be utilized to track race results.
The certified race route will start on Distillery grounds and wind through historic aging warehouses, production facilities and lots of beautiful scenery before finishing up at the Visitor’s Center. Commemorative 15th anniversary T-shirts will be given to all runners. Registration begins at 7 a.m. in front of the Buffalo Trace Distillery Visitor’s Center the day of the race, or as noted previously, runners can also register in person on July 3rd from noon to 5 p.m. Parking will be available at the Distillery; participants are asked to use the entrance off Fair Oaks as the Main Entrance will be closed.
