Join Frankfort/Franklin County Tourism as they present the 2nd Annual River Blast on Saturday, June 25, with gates opening at 11 am and the event running through 10:30 pm. The event will primarily take place at River View Park and alone the River View Trail towards the Ward Oates Amphitheater.
“We are going to have some really nice children’s activities. Our art market is going to be larger than last year. And some phenomenal food vendors are coming in too,” says Joy Jeffries, Executive Director of the Frankfort/Franklin County Tourism Commission.
This event promises to be bigger and better than last year for those reasons.
Activities at the event will range from a fishing tournament, to a 3K Run/Walk (part of the Frankfort Striders Race Series), to paddling races, children’s activities, boat rides, a car cruise-in hosted, three amazing bands beginning at 11:30 am, 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, followed by fireworks over the river to end the day at approximately 10:15 pm.
A list of the events and times prior to gates opening at 11 am are as follows:
– Fishing Tournament – Registration 5:30 – 7:00 am (Benson Valley Boat Ramp) – START 7:00 am – 3:00 pm (Weigh-In Farmer’s Market Pavilion)
– River Blast River Run 3K – Late Registration 7:00 – 8:00 am (Ward Oates Amphitheater) – START at 8:00 am – Awards Immediately Following as well as winners announced on Main Stage at 11:00 am
– Paddling Races – Late Registration 8:00 – 9:00 am (River View Park Boat Dock) – START 8:00 am – Winners announced on Main Stage at 11:00 am
Gates will open to the public at 11 am. Admission is $5 (12 and under free). There will be five entrance gates: Handicap, Boat Dock, path on the way to Ward Oates Amphitheater, and at the bottom of the bridge from the Wilkinson pedway.
Boat Rides will be on City of Frankfort Parks, Recreation and Historic Site pontoon boat, the Nancy Wilkinson. Boats will depart from the City Boat Dock at River View Park. Rides will be happening intermittently from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Art market and children activities will begin at 11:00 am and run through 7:00 pm.
From 12 noon to 3:00 pm, a cruise-in car show featuring the Capital City Classic Car Club will take place along the walk/bike path towards Ward Oates Amphitheater.
The main stage will feature live entertainment beginning at 11:30 am and running through 10:00 pm. The bands featured are the Wes Soard Band from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm, Caught Red Handed from 3:00 – 6:00 pm, and The Tim Clark Band from 7:00 – 10:00 pm.
Fireworks over the river will follow to put the BLAST in River Blast at 10:15 pm.
A Flotilla, which is essentially a boat parade, will take place at 6:00 along the river and past the River View Park Boat Dock to be judged. Several local boats as well as boats from the Ohio River will also be featured. Awards will be given.
Nearly two dozen artists and food vendors (at least 10) will be set up. As well as a beer/wine garden sponsored by the Capital Plaza Hotel for adult beverages.
With the opening of Locks 1–4 last year, Frankfort is finally open for business again. Many boats will be traveling from the Ohio River now because all of the locks and dams being open. The additional boat travel provides an economic boost to our community!
