On Saturday, the Frankfort/Franklin County Tourism Commission hosted the 2nd Annual Frankfort River Blast. The event, a community-wide celebration of the Kentucky River, took place at River View Park and featured a fishing tournament, a 3K race, food vendors, and art market, children’s activities, free boat rides, a car cruise-in, a flotilla, live music, and fireworks. The events originally started to celebrate the opening of locks 1 – 4 on the Kentucky River, once again opening up traveling by boat from the Ohio River to Frankfort. The proceeds from admission to the event goes toward Riverfront Development.
Dozens of boats cruised and anchored up and down the river during the event, including some from neighboring Indiana. They listened to the live music from the river and enjoyed their time on the water. They stuck around and watched the fireworks that evening.
Fifty boaters from as far away as central Indiana made their way to Frankfort that day! The Frankfort Boat Club hosted boats from as far away as the Indianapolis area Saturday evening. The boaters made their way from Madison, Indiana, where they put their boats in.
