The love of music and the ability of a small town to bring big names to a free public venue, is what drove Mayor Bill May to bring Shake Anderson and the Sideman Super Group to downtown Frankfort on Saturday, July 9th.  The lineup of musicians and each one of their resumes in their respective genre is staggering.  And the music created by this talented group of individual “sidemen” together was off the charts!

The concert, a free community show sponsored by Kentucky Employees Credit Union, featured legendary band members who have played with such artists and bands such as Earth Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, BB King, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, Bruce Hornsby, Prince and the Revolution, Genesis, Frank Zappa, and Weather Report, among many more.  The group featured the following artists:

Shake Anderson/guitar/ vocals

Dez Dickerson/guitar/ vocals

Chester Thompson/drums

Bill May/drums

Darrell Tibbs/percussion

Jonell Mosser/vocals

Mark “Lupe” Hamilton/guitar

Kevin Scott/bass

Charles Ross/keys

Joel Goodwin/keys

Admiral Blaney/ Background Vocals

Benjamin Bush/ Background Vocals

Raymond Noah/ Background Vocals

Shake Anderson

Known as music’s Super Sideman, Shake has worked with a roll call of greats–Earth Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, BB King, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, Bruce Hornsby,–adding flavor and musicianship to each artist’s mix.

Dez Dickerson

Dez Dickerson’s musicianship and image is most associated with Prince and the Revolution–1999, Little Red Corvette, etc.  His five year run with the artist, gave Prince his sound and established his place as a music icon.

Chester Thompson

Genesis, Frank Zappa, and Weather Report featured Chester Thompson–he exceeds the boundaries of musical genres. As a performer and studio artist, he has influenced music and musicians for over four decades.

Jonell Mosser

Jonell Mosser, known for her soulful grit, has sung with B.B. King, Etta James, Vince Gill, Trisha Yearwood, Wynona, and many others.  Her solo work has range and strength…and a stage presence many compare to Janis Joplin.

Darrell Tibbs

Master percussionist and showman, Darrell Tibbs has played with Michael McDonald, Brian McKnight, Donna Summer, The Moody Blues, and Take 6, the Neville Brothers and many more.

Here’s what some of the people who attended the concert had to say about it:

“This concert. Was better than some I have paid for!!!”

“This band was great. And her voice. Wow!”

“a wonderful evening in Frankfort Ky listening to these wonderful musicians… Enjoyed seeing people dance, sway, clap hands, while having a relaxing good time.”

Our sincere thanks to Mr. May and KECU for your dedication to the arts in Frankfort ad for bringing such an outstanding caliber of music to our small community.
