Josephine Sculpture Park Summer Classes 2016

July 13: Nature Drawing Class

Date: July 13 from 4pm-6pm
Instructor: Jody Jaques
Price: $30
Age levels: kids (6 and up) and adults, all abilities welcome!

Nature Drawing is for students (adults and kids ages 6 and up) of all skill levels. We will grab a drawing board, paper and numerous drawing utensils then wander the park while observing nature with our drawing skills. Critique and different drawing approaches will be discussed and practiced.

July 23-Aug. 20: Beginning Photography Workshop for adults (16 & up)

Dates: This workshop consists of 3 sessions:
July 23: 10am-1pm
Aug. 6: 6am-9am
Aug. 20: 7pm-10pm
Instructor: Karen Lanier
Price: Free
Age levels: 16 and up
*Please note these sessions meet at different times of day to explore a variety of light conditions including dawn, mid-day and dusk.

Jump-start your inspiration by immersing yourself in nature with your camera and an objective. Learn to look more closely at the wonders of the natural world and gain technical skills in expressing the delights you find. Light and shadows, patterns in nature, and exploration of colors will be the topics of these three workshops.

Camera basics and one-on-one troubleshooting will be included each time. Each class is scheduled to explore available light at different times of day. This beginner level workshop assumes you have not explored any settings on a camera beyond automatic, and will introduce you to shutter speed, aperture, and other variables you can control.

July 18-21: Painting LARGE Class

Date: This class meets 4 times: Monday – Thursday, July 18-21 from9am-11am each day
Instructor: Jody Jaques
Price: $130 Supplies Included (come with some ideas in mind)
Age levels: kids (8 and up) and adults, all abilities welcome!

With the help of your instructor you will individually plan, draw and paint (using acrylics) an original work of art on one large canvas (approx. 2’x3′) or 3 medium canvases meant to be one piece (a triptych). Bring ideas, notes, sketchbooks, imagery, famous artworks or photos to help build your idea. If you are developing your personal portfolio or needing a professional piece of art – this class is for you.

July 19: Workshop for Teachers: Air Quality, Climate & Forestry

Workshop for Teachers – Air Quality, Climate, and Forestry: Systems as a Theme for Teaching and Learning

Date: July 19 from 8am-3:30pm
Instructor: Elizabeth Schmitz, KY Environmental Education Cabinet
Cost: $20, Lunch and two curriculum guides included

Enjoy a morning tour of the Josephine Sculpture Park and an afternoon tour of the Capitol Education Center. Receive quality curriculum for integrating science, technology, engineering and math instruction for ages 10 – 18 during this experiential workshop for educators.

July 27-Aug 31: Nature Photo Club for youth (ages 11-17)

Dates: The Photo Club will meet every Wednesday from July 27 -August 31 from 6pm-8pm (6 meetings).
Instructor: Karen Lanier
Price: Free
Age levels: 11-17, beginner and intermediate level. No photography experience is required, just an interest and a curiosity to explore.

Play with light, explore the outdoors, and learn photography techniques to capture nature’s wonders. Each workshop will explore an aspect of nature photography and allow time to practice on the JSP grounds. Assignments between workshops and thoughtful critiques will push your skills to the next level. Finally, you’ll select your best work to be printed for a group show at the Fall Arts Festival!
