Merger of Local Chapters Creates “NAWBO Kentucky”
Statewide Reception Scheduled for Thursday, July 28
Louisville, KY (July 25, 2016) – The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO)/Louisville announces its expansion into a statewide organization after a merger with NAWBO Lexington. The organization – now named NAWBO Kentucky – is the 5th largest of 60 NAWBO chapters nationwide.
NAWBO Kentucky will celebrate its formation and name change at a statewide event scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at The Lancaster at St. Clair in Frankfort. Scheduled speakers include Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball. Tickets to the cocktail reception cost $10 for NAWBO members and $20 for non-members and can be purchased at www.nawbokentucky.org. There will be a cash bar. State lawmakers, media, local dignitaries and business men and women are invited to attend.
“We are very excited about this opportunity for growth throughout Kentucky,” said Denise Jerome, owner of and president of the Kentucky NAWBO Chapter. “Women business owners continue to impact Kentucky economically and our numbers are rising rapidly.”
Start-ups and businesses owned by women are on the rise locally and nationally. Nationwide 9.1 million firms are owned by women and generate $1.4 trillion in annual sales, according to a recent study commissioned by American Express OPEN. Women-owned businesses comprise 31 percent of the nation’s privately held firms and employ 12 percent of the U.S. workforce, NAWBO statistics show. According to American Express, in the 17 years from 1997 to 2014 there were an average of 591 new businesses started by women each day – a rate 1-1/2 times the national average.
“NAWBO’s mission is to help connect women to the resources, people, information, and organizations that can help them achieve their personal, business and advocacy goals,” Jerome said. “At NAWBO Kentucky, we look forward to the opportunities and challenges that are ahead!”
