Liberty Hall Historic Site will host a special event, “Suds, Duds & Spuds,” to unveil its new historic laundry room setting on September 1 at 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.  In addition to showcasing the room setting, event-goers will enjoy music by the Leestown Jug Band, featuring John Harrod, and a specialty potato chip-and-dip bar.  Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

Funded in part by an anonymous donor, the laundry room setting will be furnished to illustrate how textiles were laundered in the household of John Brown, one of Kentucky ‘s first U.S. senators.  “The laundry will enhance our interpretation of early Kentucky life in several ways,” says LHHS Executive Director Julienne Foster.  “In addition to providing a glimpse into the daily lives of the enslaved women who worked here, it will be an interactive space where visitors can experience laundry chores including lifting oak laundry buckets and pressing a garment with a 19th century iron.”

The September 1 event is free.  After that, the room setting can be viewed through a guided tour of Liberty Hall. Tours are offered begin at Liberty Hall, 218 Wilkinson St., Frankfort, KY, Monday through Saturday at 1:30 pm.  Admission fees are: $6/adult; $3/students (K-12); free/5 and under.
