2:00 pm – Theater on the River: Tom Sawyer, at the Ward Oates Amphitheater, End of West Main Street behind the Kentucky Bar Association

For the third consecutive summer, there will be Theatre on the River in Ward Oates Amphitheater, at the end of Main Street behind Liberty Hall. All proceeds benefit the Capital City Museum. Admission is $5 per person.

This year there will be two shows offered. Mark Twain’s classic Tom Sawyer, adapted by Laura Eason, is directed by Karen Hatter and features a cast of twelve. Kentucky Governors: An Abbreviated History was written and is being directed by Sami Allison, who directed Two Loves and a River last year, and showcases four actors.

In Tom Sawyer the audience will enjoy all the expected characters – Tom, Huckleberry Finn, Joe Harper, Aunt Polly, Becky Thatcher and, of course, the evil Injun Joe, among others. The boys are up to their usual tomfoolery, and Tom continues to use his ingenuity to get out of his fence-painting duty! Incorporated in this production is live music performed by sisters Margaret and Amelia Wilkerson, as well as movement during scene transitions, featuring Sawyier Shaw.

The cast of Tom Sawyer features D.J. Barnett, Russell Hatter, Lincoln Mattox, John McDonald, Maddi Mutchler, Tami Patrick, Zachary Paul, Bill Payne, Leah Rome, Nathan Rome, Halle Simons, and Aiesha Skinner. Technical support team consists of Nancy Atcher, Caitlyn Biggs, Lane Lewis, Bekah Mutchler and Andrew Tippett.

Production dates for Tom Sawyer are August 6, 7, 14, 28 at 2:00 p.m., and Saturday, the 20th, at 7:00 p.m.

Audience is cautioned that there is no shade, and the matinee times will be hot. Please bring, in addition to a chair, an umbrella or a canopy. Concessions will be available one hour before each curtain, as well as during intermission. Should it rain, the performance will be relocated to Frankfort High School, 328 Shelby Street.

2:00 – 4:30 pm – Tunes in the Vines featuring Alma Gitana, at Equus Run Vineyards, 1280 Moores Mill Rd., Midway, KY

“Tunes in the Vines” series is back this year as it celebrates its 18th year. A bottle of wine, good friends and great music are the perfect blend for Sunday afternoons! This year there is a wide variety of musicians to perform on the Event Barn stage from 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm each Sunday for an afternoon of family friendly entertainment! They help support many local musicians and hope that you will too! Just bring a picnic, lawn chairs or blankets! Don’t forget the family and friends.

No charge— just be prepared for a good time!

Local Kentucky beer also available along with many Equus Run wines.

Alma Gitana

Alma Gitanas’ sound is deeply rooted in the flamenco sounds of the Andalucia Region of Spain. Each member brings to the table his or her own musical background and experiences. The result is a truly unique hybrid of musical genres that spans the spectrum from Arabic to South American music. In this respect, the group’s name, which means Gypsy Soul in Spanish, fully embodies the collective vision and artistic efforts of each of its personnel. Remember, you don’t have to be a Gypsy to have a Gypsy Soul!
