Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city

In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.

The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday

Admission to the museum is free.

1:30 pm – Guided Tour of Historic Liberty Hall, at Liberty Hall Historic Site, 218 Wilkinson Street.

Guided tours of Liberty Hall are given Monday-Saturday and depart from Liberty Hall located at 218 Wilkinson Street at 1:30 pm. Tours by appointment may be made during normal office hours with advance notice of 7 days. Guided tours last approximately 75 minutes, ending in the museum store.  Las paseos en Español disponibles con cita; habla con Becky Shipp.

The grounds of Liberty Hall Historic Site are open to the public daily, dawn to dusk. Leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds. Photographers are welcome with a pass; click here to read more about our photo policy.

$6 for adults (18+)
$3 for youth (age 5-18)

School tours must be scheduled in advance.  The fee for school tours is $3.00 per child.  One chaperon per every 10 children is free; each additional adult pays $5.00. To schedule a school tour, call (502) 227-2560 or contact us by email.

Accessibility

The first floor of the Orlando Brown House is wheelchair accessible via a ramp on Wapping Street, adjacent to the building. A handicapped-accessible restroom is also available at the Orlando Brown House.  Please call for more information. Liberty Hall is not wheelchair accessible.

GARDEN BROTHERS CIRCUS celebrates 100 years entertaining families throughout North America and “we’ve pulled out all the stops!” Last chance to see Elephants live! ‘Motorcycle Madness’ has motorcycle daredevils somersaulting and spinning in a big Globe of Doom; Chinese Acrobats, the Human Slingshot, Racing Camels, crazy comedy with Circus Clowns, daring aerialists; cirque artists. Its 1½ hours of excitement and fun at GARDEN BROTHERS CIRCUS.

Free children’s tickets have been distributed at all elementary schools, pre-schools, day care centers and churches. The Free Tickets are also available at sponsoring businesses in the area. Free Kid Tickets are valid for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and under are free unless you would like to sit in VIP; they will require a chair. ONE Free Kid’s Ticket is valid PER PAID ADULT. If you have a Free Kid’s Ticket, no other ticket purchase is necessary for your child. The Free Kid’s Ticket must be presented at the box office day of show in order for the child to get in for free. Free Kid’s Tickets can be upgraded to VIP at the door.

First one hundred adult tickets sold online are only $9.95. The $9.95 adult first 100 deal can be used in conjunction with a Free Kid’s Ticket.

Ford is a veteran of the Cincinnati music scene, playing classic rock, punk and alt country in various bands, influenced by everything from classic & college rock to country blues. Currently playing a repertoire of self-composed American roots music. “I’ve been writing songs since my early teens” John explains, “Whether it be songs I’ve written or an old song from the 1930’s, I play what I fall in love with. Many times people ask if I’m doing all original music; sometimes I do, depending on the venue, but sometimes it’s just an old Son House song or a new Chris Smither song that people have never heard, that I consider to be a great song.”

7:00 pm – Ghost Tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery, It’s rumored that there are more spirits at the Distillery than those aging in barrels. You will hear legendary stories and get a look at some of the Distillery’s most haunted areas, including Stony Point Mansion, where it’s been said that the ghost of Col. Blanton still resides.
