On Friday, October 14th, 2016, Franklin County revealed a new facility housing not only a permanent home for the ‘s Office, but a facility to house the county coroner’s office, the county clerk’s office, and a new firehouse just steps away. The new public safety building is located on River Bend Road and is part of a public safety complex. In addition to the fire station and public safety building, the plans are still in place to convert another area on campus into a fitness center for county employees.

County Judge Executive Huston Wells told those in attendance that the renovation included state-of-the-art facilities for the sheriff and coroner, and that the completion of the $2 million River Bend Fire Station was just about $50,000 over budget as a success. Wells credited the success of this project to county Planning and Zoning Director Robert Hewitt, who acted as project manager, saving the county $300,000 from hiring a separate project manager.

The new sheriff’s office is equipped with a new state-of-the-art interview room, firearms training space, public service area and evidence room. There is also separate space to safely and securely house the county clerk’s voting machines. The county coroner will now have a proper space to serve his position, better serving the people of Franklin County.
