This message from Dr. Huston Barber, Frankfort Independent School District Superintendent:

Dr. Hensley, Principal at Second Street School, is reaching out to the community for help with one of our school’s most pressing challenges: literacy.

A program called “Magic Ladder” is proving effective at helping kids achieve rapid gains in reading fluency. Because the program requires one-on-one support. Dr. Hensley is looking for volunteer “Learning Stewards” to be trained in the program to work with one or more students for as little as 15 minutes a week. Sessions will be held after school and last 15 minutes each. Volunteers can work with just one child, or can opt to stay a little longer and work with 2, 3 or 4 children. Training will be provided to all volunteers.

Reading ability in early elementary is a significant predictor of success in many areas, so this is a high-impact activity that will make a real difference for our kids and our community! Also, please consider whether your church, residential block, civic club or other organization may be able to contribute time to our students as a group! Please contact Sam Sams at sam.sams@frankfort.kyschools.us if you can help or use the following link to sign up:
