Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city

In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.

The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday

Admission to the museum is free.

Frankfort’s Fishing Reels: Jewels of the Bluegrass

Frankfort has a very unique place in history as being the town where the bait casting fishing reel was perfected and first produced. Every place has its historic event or figure, but only we have this distinction. It was a Frankfort industry for over 100 years. Local craftsmen handmade these gems to fish the renowned streams of central Kentucky. Their reputation for quality and beauty was recognized around the world.

10:30 – 11:30 am – Yoga, at the Owen County Public Library, 1370 Highway 22 E, Owenton

Participants of all fitness levels are welcome to join in yoga class. Classes include breathing exercises, poses and relaxation. We will follow a Yoga workout DVD.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a beach towel or exercise mat. Everyone is welcome!

Guided tours start at Liberty Hall at 1:30 pm (Monday – Saturday). Tour begins at Liberty Hall, 218 Wilkinson St. Admission: $6 for adults; $3 for youth (15-18); Free for children 5 and under. Free for Friends of Liberty Hall.

Kentucky Made: Decorative Arts from the Liberty Hall Collection – Ongoing

sugar chestFeaturing some of the finest examples of Kentucky-made pieces from the Liberty Hall collection, this exhibit explores the social and cultural landscape of 19th-century Kentucky through the work of silversmiths, weavers, furniture makers, and . Some of the artists represented include: Asa Blanchard, Matthew Harris Jouett, Oliver Frazer, and Paul Sawyier. Located on the 2nd Floor of Liberty Hall, the exhibit is only viewed through a guided tour.

Every Friday night, Prodigy Vineyards and Winery brings in local talent to rock the sound stage! Musicians play from 6:30-8:30. 7:00 pm – Ghost Tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery, It’s rumored that there are more spirits at the Distillery than those aging in barrels. You will hear legendary stories and get a look at some of the Distillery’s most haunted areas, including Stony Point Mansion, where it’s been said that the ghost of Col. Blanton still resides.
