The Shelby County Homemakers will be hosting the YARN BARN sale of Mary Margaret Krauhlec’s donated yarn and accessories. In order to make this happen, we are asking for volunteers who would help meet us at Mary Margaret’s home in Cedarmore to load up these boxes.

The boxes are very light, bankers boxes, and we intend to have enough volunteers to create a line to simply pass them from the storage location to a box truck so that we can drive them to extension.

There are approximately 600 boxes!!

All proceeds from the Yarn Barn sale will be divided amongst three local non-profit/charitable entities at the request of Mary Margaret.

Anyone interested in volunteer hours (this can be teens/pre-teens that you would like to bring with you as well!!) please contact Shelby County Extension at (502) 633-4593 or rachelle.sharar@uky.edu.

Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city

In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.

The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday

Admission to the museum is free.

Frankfort’s Fishing Reels: Jewels of the Bluegrass

Frankfort has a very unique place in history as being the town where the bait casting fishing reel was perfected and first produced. Every place has its historic event or figure, but only we have this distinction. It was a Frankfort industry for over 100 years. Local craftsmen handmade these gems to fish the renowned streams of central Kentucky. Their reputation for quality and beauty was recognized around the world.
