Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city
In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.
The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday
Admission to the museum is free.

Frankfort’s Fishing Reels: Jewels of the Bluegrass
Frankfort has a very unique place in history as being the town where the bait casting fishing reel was perfected and first produced. Every place has its historic event or figure, but only we have this distinction. It was a Frankfort industry for over 100 years. Local craftsmen handmade these gems to fish the renowned streams of central Kentucky. Their reputation for quality and beauty was recognized around the world.

Time-travel to the summer of 1817 to delve into Margaretta Varick’s fatal visit to Liberty Hall and learn how the legend of the Gray Lady came to be. 11 a.m. at Liberty Hall. For ages 7-10. Join KHS as we investigate the very first Kentuckians and how they used the resources of the Bluegrass. Your little time traveler will have the chance to explore our gallery and get a taste of life as a Native American by creating jewelry and instruments made only of materials they find. Students will discover the importance of natural resources, develop problem solving and critical thinking skills, and learn to identify and create patterns.

Kentucky Made: Decorative Arts from the Liberty Hall Collection – Ongoing
Featuring some of the finest examples of Kentucky-made pieces from the Liberty Hall collection, this exhibit explores the social and cultural landscape of 19th-century Kentucky through the work of silversmiths, weavers, furniture makers, and . Some of the artists represented include: Asa Blanchard, Matthew Harris Jouett, Oliver Frazer, and Paul Sawyier. Located on the 2nd Floor of Liberty Hall, the exhibit is only viewed through a guided tour.
