The KY History Half is the Commonwealth’s only half marathon that celebrates Kentucky’s history. Plus, we offer fun events for the entire family, so pack up your running shoes and the kids, too, and head for beautiful Frankfort, Ky, to take on the greatest half in history!

Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city
In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.
The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday
Admission to the museum is free.

Frankfort’s Fishing Reels: Jewels of the Bluegrass
Frankfort has a very unique place in history as being the town where the bait casting fishing reel was perfected and first produced. Every place has its historic event or figure, but only we have this distinction. It was a Frankfort industry for over 100 years. Local craftsmen handmade these gems to fish the renowned streams of central Kentucky. Their reputation for quality and beauty was recognized around the world.

Buckmeadow Farm Fest Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze opens up this Saturday to the public for all kinds of fall family fun! Come take a hay ride to pick a pumpkin, race down the slides, shoot our corn cannon, let the kids play in the cotton pit or test their skills on the ninja warrior course! So much to do! 12:30 – 4:00 pm – Scenic Train Ride!, at Bluegrass Railroad Museum, 175 Beasley Rd, Versailles
Enjoy a ride through the rolling Kentucky countryside! Learn about railroading and local history! View tiny trains as they transverse tiny twisting tracks!
The Museum and Gift Shop open at 12:30, while the train will depart at 2. The ride is approximately 90 minutes, and includes a mid-ride stop, with the opportunity for passengers to disembark, walk up to the edge of the Young’s High Bridge, and overlook the Kentucky River Palisades.
There are restrooms at the station, but not on the train.

Guided tours start at Liberty Hall at 1:30 pm (Monday – Saturday). Tour begins at Liberty Hall, 218 Wilkinson St. Admission: $6 for adults; $3 for youth (15-18); Free for children 5 and under. Free for Friends of Liberty Hall.
Kentucky Made: Decorative Arts from the Liberty Hall Collection – Ongoing
Featuring some of the finest examples of Kentucky-made pieces from the Liberty Hall collection, this exhibit explores the social and cultural landscape of 19th-century Kentucky through the work of silversmiths, weavers, furniture makers, and . Some of the artists represented include: Asa Blanchard, Matthew Harris Jouett, Oliver Frazer, and Paul Sawyier. Located on the 2nd Floor of Liberty Hall, the exhibit is only viewed through a guided tour.

St. Francis Blessing of the Animals. All are welcome. Sat. Sept. 30 outdoors on our Shepherd Way campus in Frankfort at 2pm. Animals of all sizes and kinds are welcome but must be leashed/contained in some way. Free.

Join our Library staff on the 5th Saturday of every month from 2-4PM for tea time and good ole fashioned conversation. Have an ancestor that is eluding you? Confused about which source to use next? Have questions about the proof standard or how to get the kids involved? Bring along your genealogy issues, hot topics or questions and the group will try to help you out. Even if we can’t solve your problem, we promise to provide lots of tea and sympathy!
All research levels welcome – let’s learn from each other’s experiences!

Please join the Frankfort Elks for their Fall Bash and Membership Drive featuring the band, Sorry ATARI. Members are encouraged to bring guests (and a dish to share) to show folks how we do fun and fellowship at the lodge. Food will be available starting at 6:30 PM, and the band starts at 8:00 PM. 7:00 pm – Ghost Tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery, It’s rumored that there are more spirits at the Distillery than those aging in barrels. You will hear legendary stories and get a look at some of the Distillery’s most haunted areas, including Stony Point Mansion, where it’s been said that the ghost of Col. Blanton still resides. FREE.
