It’s nearly time for one of Frankfort’s premier event. One week from today, the Black Cat Chase 5K, sponsored by Whitaker Bank, will take place on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 7:00pm in Downtown Frankfort. Each year, the Frankfort YMCA puts together a community gathering – a 5K fun run/walk – that takes place in the heart of Downtown Frankfort. This year is projected to generate approximately 2,000+ participants along with thousands of supporters and spectators.
True to its name, the Black Cat Chase race will begin with the sound of a horn and race participants chasing the Black Cat, who will be riding in the back of a Neil Huffman Automotive Group lead car. The race course will begin on Broadway Street in front of the Old Capitol and directs runners and walkers through scenic Downtown Frankfort, around the new Capital building, and ending back on Broadway Street. A complete race map is available on Frankfort YMCA’s website at http://www.frankfortymca.org. All roads will be closed and blocked by Frankfort Police Department during the event. Broadway Street will be closed beginning at 5:00 p.m., with all other race course streets closing at 6:50 p.m. Roads will remain blocked until the final participant passes, and race officials and police department deem it safe to reopen.
In addition to race itself, there are many other features that will generate interest to add to the excitement. The YMCA encourages participants to dress-up in their favorite family-friendly Halloween costumes, as there will be prizes given to top costumes. Also, new to the event this year will be a pumpkin decoration contest. Whether it’s painted, carved or decorated otherwise, there will be prizes awarded to top finishers in all age groups: 5-8, 9-12, 13-17, 18+. See Frankfort YMCA website for details on the pumpkin contest and all other activities planned for the event.
Regardless, if participants are trying to win the race, or simply wanting to enjoy the festive atmosphere and social opportunities, the Black Cat Chase 5K is a great event that engages our community in a positive manner. While you are at the event, you will also enjoy music from STAR 103.7 and complimentary samplings from Chick-Fil-A (while supplies lasts).
All registered participants will also receive a collectible Black Cat Chase 5K long sleeve T-shirt. Those registering after October 19 are not guaranteed to have their shirt by race day. In this case, the YMCA will contact those participants when shirts are available to be picked up at the Downtown YMCA. Registration will be available leading up to the event, though there will be price saving opportunities when registering by October 23.
