Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city

In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.

The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday

Admission to the museum is free.

Frankfort’s Fishing Reels: Jewels of the Bluegrass

Frankfort has a very unique place in history as being the town where the bait casting fishing reel was perfected and first produced. Every place has its historic event or figure, but only we have this distinction. It was a Frankfort industry for over 100 years. Local craftsmen handmade these gems to fish the renowned streams of central Kentucky. Their reputation for quality and beauty was recognized around the world.

Grab your trowels and gloves because this week your Little Historian will uncover and piece together Kentucky’s past! Whether it be sherds of pottery or fragments of bone, nothing will be left unearthed as your 3- to 5-year old discovers if they have what it takes to be an archaeologist. Activities will help develop fine motor, listening, verbal communication and sensorimotor skills.

Anyone without an audition appointment will be seen after all scheduled appointments are seen, or as time permits. Please prepare a digital copy of a picture and resume and submit with your application email. Please also bring a hard copy in case it is requested at the audition. PREPARATION: Please prepare a song from the Smokey Joe’s Café score, or something in the style of the show. You may be asked to sing more than one piece. Once you have completed your audition you may be asked to return for reading/singing/dancing callback on Friday. *There will be no General Call on Friday. Friday, January 12: CALLBACKS: 6-10pm at Woodford Theatre Details will be provided for those in a callback circumstance as to what time to arrive for the callback. Be prepared with the songs and sides given and be prepared to dance in dance clothes and appropriate footwear. Rehearsals: Will begin around March 12th. The weeks of March 12 and March 19, rehearsals could be any day of the week. Starting March 26, all rehearsals will be primarily held Thursday and Friday Evenings, Saturday and Sunday days and some evenings. There will be no large group rehearsals on Monday-Wednesday evenings, however there may be individual or small group music or dance rehearsals. Performances: Smokey Joe’s Café will play: May 18-20, 25-27, 31-June 3, 2018 *There is an additional Thursday evening performance on May 31st.
