Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city

In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.

The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday

Admission to the museum is free.

Frankfort’s Fishing Reels: Jewels of the Bluegrass

Frankfort has a very unique place in history as being the town where the bait casting fishing reel was perfected and first produced. Every place has its historic event or figure, but only we have this distinction. It was a Frankfort industry for over 100 years. Local craftsmen handmade these gems to fish the renowned streams of central Kentucky. Their reputation for quality and beauty was recognized around the world.

Shari Thompson will lead this midday beginners yoga practice. Extra time will be taken to focus on alignment and the basics of yoga postures.

Follow a beginner’s DVD to boost your energy. This gentle workout is designed to improve posture and increase mobility.

11:00 am – 12:30 pm – Milestones & Meltdowns, at the Paul Sawyier Public Library, 319 Wapping St

Parent Group for anyone with a child from birth to age 3. Facilitating the group will be Christina Libby of Commonwealth Doula. While your little one is welcome to join, this group is for you, the parent.

3:15 – 4:30 pm – Introduction to Tumbling, at the Owen County Public Library, 1370 Highway 22 E, Owenton

This program is designed for children in grades K – 2. The four week session is designed to teach the fundamentals and basic technique for tumbling.

Besides doing fun stretches like bear walk, athletes will learn how to do forward roll, backward roll, & cartwheel.

Everyone says that yoga is so good for you but what if you’re a runner that can barely touch their toes? Developing flexibility is only one aspect of yoga that can help runners and other athletes. Strength, focus and range of motion are all important, but often, neglected aspects of an athletes training. Come join Katie and start working on those portions of your workout routine that get left out! Classes are only $7 per class for this 5 week session, what do you have to lose?
