Perhaps it was the threat of rain. Perhaps it was the colder weather. Perhaps it was the fact that the University of Kentucky Wildcats were playing in the NCAA Tournament at the same time. Even though the actual rain held off on Saturday, only about 330 people participated in the 10th Annual Good Shepherd “Run for the Gold” 3K Run/Walk. Families and die hard runners alike gathered and enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day festivities as the skies threatened to open up and pour on the annual event. And the temperature was plenty like that of the Motherland of Ireland herself, cool enough to keep the hardiest of leprechauns in hiding. The usual plethora of activities were available in downtown Frankfort for the entire family before the race even began. A local bagpiper, the Lexington Irish Dancers and even a crazy costume contest were among the family friendly activities. 45 year old Cory Sims posted a respectable 11:39.7 minutes.

The race is the third in the popular Frankfort Striders Run/Walk Series.  More information on the other races is available on the Frankfort Striders Run/Walk Series website (www.frankfortstriders.com) and on their Facebook group.

The overall winner was a female this year. 16 year old Molly Stigers crossed the finish line with a blazing time of 10:54.1 minutes. The second runner to cross the finish line was also a female. 15 year old Makena Gillion came in hot on Molly’s heels at 11:03.8 minutes. Third place overall was actually the first place male.

Once again, timing was done by Good Times Event Services and the times can be found on the links below.
