Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city
In November of 2004, the Capital City Museum opened its doors to the public. Housed in a 150 year old building that represents all that is left of the Capital Hotel, which burned in 1917, the museum is a large room filled with history and character. There are plenty of details to explore, with exhibits painting a vivid picture of both political and personal life in Kentucky over the past 200 years.
The Capital City Museum is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Saturday
Admission to the museum is free.
Featuring the exhibit:
Frankfort’s Fishing Reels: Jewels of the Bluegrass
Frankfort has a very unique place in history as being the town where the bait casting fishing reel was perfected and first produced. Every place has its historic event or figure, but only we have this distinction. It was a Frankfort industry for over 100 years. Local craftsmen handmade these gems to fish the renowned streams of central Kentucky. Their reputation for quality and beauty was recognized around the world.

March is National Youth Art Month which is a nationwide celebration of achievement in the arts by students K-12. We will be showcasing the creative talents of Shelby and Henry County youth during March. All are invited to visit and view the student’s art during business hours (10 am to 5 pm).

Parent Group for anyone with a child from birth to age 3. Facilitating the group will be Christina Libby of Commonwealth Doula. While your little one is welcome to join, this group is for you, the parent.
1:30 pm – Guided Tour of Historic Liberty Hall, at Liberty Hall Historic Site, 218 Wilkinson Street.
Guided tours of Liberty Hall are given Monday-Saturday and depart from Liberty Hall located at 218 Wilkinson Street at 1:30 pm. Tours by appointment may be made during normal office hours with advance notice of 7 days. Guided tours last approximately 75 minutes, ending in the museum store. The grounds of Liberty Hall Historic Site are open to the public daily, dawn to dusk. Leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds. Photographers are welcome with a pass; click here to read more about our photo policy.

School tours must be scheduled in advance. The fee for school tours is $3.00 per child. One chaperon per every 10 children is free; each additional adult pays $5.00. To schedule a school tour, call (502) 227-2560 or contact us by email.

The first floor of the Orlando Brown House is wheelchair accessible via a ramp on Wapping Street, adjacent to the building. A handicapped-accessible restroom is also available at the Orlando Brown House. Please call for more information. Liberty Hall is not wheelchair accessible.
