FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 24 , 2013) – The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) will host its fourth summer of Camp ArtyFact this June and July at the KHS history campus in downtown Frankfort. These hands-on camps are perfect for kids ages 5 to 13.
Five weeklong sessions are offered from June 17 through July 26, with rolling registration deadlines the Monday prior to the start of each term. Each week revolves around a different theme, like “Future Transportation/Past Inspiration” and “Me, Myself and I: Self Portraits and Busts,” and some weeks involve partnerships with outside organizations like Canoe Kentucky and the Lexington Children’s Theatre.
“Camp ArtyFact is the perfect way to entertain and educate your child this summer. They’ll be introduced to Kentucky’s history and culture while learning 21st century skills of communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking,” says Greg Hardison, KHS participatory arts and programs administrator.
At this half-day camp, participants will explore the KHS history campus and collections through hands-on activities like sculpting, painting and collage, comic book creation, acting and puppetry. With small classes, high-quality supplies and top-notch instructors, campers will learn how to talk about art and artifacts, develop analytical skills and gain confidence in their abilities.
Each Camp ArtyFact course is three hours long per day. Parents may sign their campers up for the morning course, the afternoon course or both. Fees for the camp include all supplies, and are $60 for KHS members and $70 for non-members for one week. Discounts are available when registering for more than one course, and extended day is available for an additional $10 per week
