Adult Education students need transportation to school and no cost childcare. These two obstacles, more than anything else, keep hundreds of people in our community from finishing the education they so badly need to become employed and self-reliant. Our grant funding is secure and pays for educating those in need, but we cannot use those funds for transportation or childcare. Without your help, many in our community remain trapped in their circumstances. Please consider this opportunity to do your part to help provide financial support to continue the vital work of Franklin County’s only Adult Education provider.
On August 8th we are hosting the fifth annual Thorn Hill Spellapalooza! That’s right, a spelling bee. The evening will be tons of fun with teams competing for first place and Frankfort bragging rights. In order to pull this event off, we need sponsors and that is why we’re writing to you. There are several ways to contribute. I’ve enclosed more information with this letter allowing you to review the various sponsorship levels and what bang that gives you for your important buck. If you would like to be a team sponsor, but do not want to organize a spelling team, we’ll match your $300.00 team bee dollars with a deserving team.
August 8th is the date and the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center located at 211 Washington Street is the place. In addition to the Spelling Bee competition, we will be hosting a live auction, dinner and bake sale. This is a family friendly event with something for everyone.
In closing, I’d like to remind you of what Thorn Hill Education Center offers to our community. GED education (we graduated 94 so far this year); tutoring; college preparation; English as a second language; low level literacy programs and programs like ROAR (reach out and read) which gets books into the hands of children who would not otherwise have this opportunity; FLIP – the family literacy program for the entire family and SO much more. These services are worth a fortune and all of them are provided at no charge to over 500 participants each year. Our excitement about Thorn Hill grows as we prepare for a new future, one we can make happen with your contribution.
Thorn Hill Education Center is a PROGRAM OF EXCELLENCE for the second year in a row. As such we have been ranked the 7th best program of Kentucky’s 120 counties and Kentucky is ranked 17th in the nation for providing the best in Adult Education. Our faculty is doing their part to improve the quality of life for our students. Please take this opportunity to do your part to raise the quality of life in our community. I ask for your help today. Any amount will be appreciated.
