Capital City Stampede 10K Run & 2 Mile Walk
June 14, 2014 @ 8:00 am
Registration – Thursday, June 12 is the last day to register at the $20 rate (online registration through Thursday at midnight or register at the front desk at either Y location). Late registration will take place at the Prevention Park YMCA on Friday, June 13 during packet pick up or before the race at the State Capitol. Late registration is $25.
Packet Pick-Up – Packet pickup will be held at the Prevention Park YMCA (77 C. Michael Davenport Blvd) from 9am-6pm on Friday, June 13. Please note the location change from previous years due to the new group exercise room at the Downtown Y and limited space there. Since pickup is not in the Downtown area, we know many of you will pick up packets for other runners. Please notify us ahead of time if you would like to pick up a large group of packets or an entire team so that we can have those ready for you and make it easier on everyone (Prevention Park number is 502-875-9276). If you live out of town, you can pick up your packet before the race in front of the State Capitol from 7:00-7:45am.
Race Course – The race starts in front of the Capitol on Capital Avenue just before State Street (facing the Capitol). The 10K goes up around the Capitol Annex first, down Capitol Avenue, left on Main, right on Wilkinson, right on Broadway (shop side), left on Ann, right on Mero, right on High, left on Main, right on Capital Avenue, left on E. Todd, out Old Lawrenceburg Rd. and back, left on Todd, and left on Capital Avenue back to the start/finish line. The 2 mile course follows the 10K but turns around on Capital Avenue after one mile and returns to the finish.

Water Stops & Refreshments – Water stations will be held on Capital Avenue and on Old Lawrenceburg Road. We will also have Gatorade, water, McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches, apples, and bananas at the finish line.
Start Line Procedures & Chip Timing – We ask for your help with start line congestion and traffic flow by lining up properly at the start line. We will have signs for 6, 8, 10 and 12 minute pace miles. Walkers, small children, and those with strollers, dogs (on leashes), wheelchairs, or other equipment should line up in the back. Be sure you are registered properly for either the 10K or 2 Mile so your time is associated with the correct distance. Please double check the info on your bib, make sure everything is correct, and notify us of any changes. Your race bib contains a small disposable chip on the back. In order for the system to read your chip, the bib must be worn on the front of your body at chest height. You should not fold your bib in any way to keep from damaging the timing chip. Also, the bib should be worn on the outside of all clothing, and it must be visible at all times. If you remove your bib or do not wear it correctly, you may not receive a time.
Toilets – Portable toilets will be located on State St. Restroom facilities will also be open by the Capitol Annex parking garage.
Parking – You can park on the side streets along Capital Avenue or in the parking lot to the right of the Capitol building that exits on Shelby Street (so that you can still get out when the roads along the course are blocked).
T-Shirts – All participants will receive a short sleeved heather navy Capital City Stampede race shirt (or a navy tech shirt if you paid the extra $10). Limited quantities of performance shirts are still available, and more can be ordered after the race if you still want to upgrade.
Entertainment – Calm your spirits beforehand and sit back and relax afterwards listening to music by the Hot Chocolate and the Marshmellows band. This local band plays Kentucky roots and bluegrass music and will perform both before and after the race. If you are coming from out of town, consider spending the night before the race and going to the Summer Concert Series at the Old Capitol lawn on Friday (The Conch Republic plays this evening).
Awards – The award presentation will begin on the State Capitol steps as soon as the majority of participants cross the finish line. Plaques and gift certificates will be given to the overall top 3 male and top 3 female participants. The top three participants in each age group will receive a medal. Team awards will be presented to the top three teams with the fastest cumulative time. Minimum of five runners per team. Trifecta awards will begin as soon as the Capital City Stampede results have been called.
Results – Good Times Event Services will provide timing services, and the results are immediately posted to their website (see links below). Results will also be posted on the Frankfort YMCA website, the Frankfort Trifecta Facebook page, and in The State Journal.
