4th of July, 4th of July Parade, Fourth of July, July 4th, Old Fashioned July 4th, Parade, Patriotic Wheels Contest & Parade
Liberty Hall, South Frankfort Neighborhood Association, WalkBike Frankfort, and the Folkbike ReCyclery invite everyone to the Historic Downtown Frankfort area for a day of patriotic celebration and an old-fashioned good time. In this collaborative effort, the SFNA and Walk/Bike Frankfort will begin the annual kid’s bike, trike, stroller parade from the parking lot at Second Street School on Saturday, July 4 at 1 p.m. We will carefully and safely guide the group to Liberty Hall to enjoy refreshments and a cool treat. At 2:15, Liberty Hall will begin registering individuals for their Patriotic Wheels contest and parade starting at 2:30. Participants will be judged, during Liberty Hall’s bike parade, on their patriotic decorations. The first prize winner will receive two tickets to Kentucky Kingdom from Froggy 104.9 and other participants will receive a prize from Liberty Hall.
Stick around Liberty Hall to listen to the 202nd Army Band, participate in one or both scavenger hunts, or jump through the sprinklers. For dinner, go a few blocks over to one of our local restaurants and discover a new favorite dish. Finish the evening in our historic city watching the annual fireworks show presented by the VFW Post 4075. WalkBike Frankfort has requested that the top level of the Capitol Annex parking garage be closed to vehicles (parking available on levels 2-6 with access from Old Lawrenceburg Road).
For additional information please visit the Facebook pages or websites of Liberty Hall, South Frankfort Neighborhood Association, WalkBike Frankfort, or the Folkbike ReCyclery.

Liberty Hall will open its doors to the community on Saturday, July 4th to welcome the public to its annual free community event, An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July, from 2 to 4 p.m. The highlight of this year’s event is a free concert by the 202nd Army Band of the Kentucky National Guard at 3:15 p.m., with a reading of the Preamble to the United States Constitution by a local celebrity.
Other activities will include children’s games with prizes, old-fashioned lawn games, and activities intended for all age levels, like face painting. Two scavenger hunts, one in the garden with the “Founding Fathers”, and one inside Liberty Hall, will entertain the kids and be a way to get to know the historic site.
Free watermelon and lemonade will be on hand, and you can have your photo taken with the Honorable Mr. Froggy and Lady Cricket from 104.9. Beat the heat with a “run through the sprinklers” as Liberty Hall once again will turn on its large irrigation system on the lawn of the Orlando Brown House.
Returning this year is the Patriotic Wheels contest and parade. The community is encouraged to decorate their bicycles, wagons, children’s strollers, and any other non-motorized vehicle and enter them in the contest for a chance to win tickets to Kentucky Kingdom. The parade will be at 2:30 p.m., so be sure to get to the staging area next to Liberty Hall by 2:15 p.m.
Bring a blanket and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the grounds of Liberty Hall, a National Historic Landmark, and former home of Senator John Brown, Kentucky’s first senator.
Admission to the event is free, and is sponsored in part by Farmers Bank and Capital Trust Company, with support from Cap City Communications and Froggy 104.9. Use 218 Wilkinson Street entrance. For more information, call Liberty Hall at (502) 227-2560, visit www.libertyhall.org, or on Facebook.

Days of Knights – A Medieval Experience was conceived as a publicity tool for an archery range and quickly grew to something far more than that. In 2011, the City of Frankfort’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Sites was putting the finishing touches on its new archery range at… Cove Spring Archery Park. The Department’s curator of historic sites suggested that a medieval themed archery demonstration event might help bring attention to the new facility, taking advantage of the current popularity of numerous movies and television shows with medieval themes. The concept of the event grew rapidly as more and more living history components were added to the basic idea.
With generous support from the Frankfort Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Sites and the Frankfort/ Franklin County Tourism and Convention Commission, Days of Knights became an educational and entertaining medieval living history event at which historical accuracy is emphasized.
The first Days of Knights event was held at Frankfort’s Cove Spring Archery Park in October, 2012. The three-day event attracted about a hundred costumed participants and some 5000 spectators, which delighted local parks and tourism staff members. Days of Knights had been planned as a one-off event, but its popularity with enthusiastic participants soon led to planning for a repeated event. Under the leadership of Daniel Peterson, the 2013 Days of Knights weekend was held at Oak Grove, Kentucky – near Fort Campbell – in October of that year. The turnout of fascinated spectators was even greater than that in Frankfort the year before. In 2014, Days of Knights returns to Frankfort. Plans now call for the event to be in Frankfort every other year with another locale – presumably Oak Grove – hosting it in the alternate years.
This is a FREE and FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT.
