The Frankfort premier of Proud Citizen, a movie written, directed and produced by Thom Sutherland, filmed in Lexington and starring Frankfort’s own Sami Allison, this film won Best Feature Film Award in the Narrative Feature Category at the 2014 New Orleans Film Festival. After winning second place in a play writing contest, Bulgarian Krasimira Stanimirova travels to the rolling hills of Kentucky for the premiere of her autobiographical, Communist-era play “Black Coat”. Expecting southern hospitality, Krasi instead finds herself isolated and lonely as she explores America on foot. PROUD CITIZEN is a funny, sometimes heartbreaking meditation on disappointment, traveling, the comfort of strangers and the joy of funnel cakes. Visit the movie’s website HERE.
